3. What kind of media institution might distribute your media product and why?

3. What kind of media institution might distribute your media product and why?

In my institutional research I looked at 'Vertigo Films' to distribute our product because they made film which is similar to ours but a bit different with the storyline. They made 'The Football Factory' which is just a study of the English obsession with football violence, its about men looking for armies to join, wars to fight and places to belong.

We assumed they will be a good film distributor company due to the fact they have made a film with same concept as ours but I did some more research and and came across another distributing company called 'Revolver Entertainment'. I have decided to choose 'Revolver Entertainment over 'Vertigo Films' because 'Revolver Entertainment' I know they will be a better film distribution company for us because of the fact they are experts in distributing youth entertainment.

'Revolver Entertainmen't have made films in the youth culture genre like 'Offender', 'Ill Manors', 'Sket' and 'Shank'. All of these films were successful and link well with our product as all of these films are based in London, have a lot of violence, sex and drug use in their films which is exactly what is going to be in our product. But another film they have distributed which was a massive hit was 'Kidulthood'. I have talked about 'Kidulthood' before and wanted to do the opening similar to how they filmed it which was with the football and camera movements for each character and so we did but obviously change it up to link with our story. 'Kidulthood' was a filmed we liked and talked about a lot in our research and planning so we knew that 'Revolver Entertainment' will be the perfect company in distributing our product as they have distributed lots of youth culture films before and have been very successful in doing so.

Also, they are a multi-award winning UK & Eire’s leading "All Rights" distribution & production company. This means they are growing and becoming a bigger and better company each year by winning awards such as for 'Marketing Initiative For Film' and 'UK Premiere Of The Year'. They have proved that they have been very successful through the past years and this shows us that they can market our film well and get it more recognised. They can also promote our film fully and distribute it all over the world as they have done previous films like 'Kidulthood'.

They have enough money to use in our film as is it a low budget British film and set in a urban environment, they won't be any special effects and and big name actors in our product saving them a lot of money to spend. And they can distribute our product in the cinemas and in shops like 'HMV' and in supermarkets like 'Sainsbury's', also, have online retailers to distribute our product like 'Play.com' and 'amazon.com'. Especially distributing our product to these retailers in 'Blu-ray' form.

Isaac:

The social class the character Isaac (the football player) is represented as focussed, dedicated and hardworking. We wanted portray this through the use of mise en scene, especially through the use of props and costume. The fact he is wearing his team shirt, with is tucked in and has his socks pulled up suggests he is committed and prepared. The cones in the background (which are part of the mise en scene) portrays he is training in various exercises which also shows his range of ability and shows he is talented. We have set in in a football pitch therefore it conveys a professional aspect to his play.

Gang:
In comparison the opposite group of people are portrayed as aggressive, deviant and mischievous. We effectively showed this through the comparison of shots. For example we used an over-the-shoulder shot of Isaac (the football player) and contrasted it with an over-the-shoulder shot of three members of the gang. We used this technique to compare their stances and attitudes. Another way in which we showed aggressiveness was the scene when the gang were play-fighting each other. Their attitude towards play fighting was more aggressive and threatening than how normal people would play fight. Finally the appearance of the gang members added to the way we wanted them to be represented. The way Isaac's kit is used to represent the kind of person he is (dedicated, hardworking) also is used for the gang. They are the perfect stereotype of the youth in London e.g. hoods up, trousers low, phones playing out loud etc.
